Over the last few weeks it has become noticeable that there are many people from Honduras/Guatemala/El Salvador and Nicaragua that are going around the hotels and other local businesses looking for work.
It is also evident that more and more stalls are being set up either on the beach or on front street. Most of the stall holders are obviously not from Belize, and therefore it is hard to see how or who they are paying for their stands.
The Ambergris Daily is not against the stalls but wish the town board would put them all in one place which would then make a market type area, and the old football field would be perfect for this. This idea would also relieve more parking spaces on front street which are sorely needed in the high and sometimes even in the low seasons. It would also give tourists the place to compare prices, and immigration the opportunity to investigate who is legal and who is not.
A final point has to be made that all the people, without the correct paperwork, and who come from foreign shores are preventing legal residents and citizens a chance to make a legal income.

Well yesterday was a fdisaster as we went to Estelles and found that our friend Charles had gone to Cancun for the week and the staff had forgotten to order ribs. Jambo and I were very disappointed as we only had chicken bones to munch on. An interesting point is that elsewhere in the world dogs cannot eat chicken bones but here they are so soft and perfectly safe to munch on.
The weather is going to be wonderful, and the sun will be out for most of the day with plenty of blue skies.

We were,as usual, totally correct about Tropical Storm Harvey which caused no damage and a minor amount of rain hit the island.
Today looks great and we expect to see a lot of the sun and we are going to Estelles for their brilliant bar-b-que. Jamboi will be chasing coconuts and all will be right with the world.

Approximately 2:00 am this morning, Saturday, August 20, 2011, Mr. David Tuts of San Juan, Ambergris Caye, went for a swim in the lagoon by Zacbajo Bar and was attacked by an American crocodile. Vince Rose of ACES/American Crocodile Education Sanctuary responded to the incident. Mr. Tuts’s sister informed Vince that David is an excellent diver and just decided to go for a swim. The crocodile suddenly grabbed him by the head and pulled him under the water. Miraculously, David was able to grab ahold of the croc’s top and lower jaw and opened its mouth enough to get his head free, then swam to safety. He ran to his home one block away and was taken to Dr. Dan. Due to the severity of his injuries David was flown to the hospital in Belize City where he is reportedly in stable condition but being kept for observation in case of infection. David was extremely lucky and his fast thinking just may have saved his life. Although stable, David is still in a serious condition. Crocodiles’ mouths carry many bacteria that can cause serious infections. ACES was also informed by a reliable source that the crocodile is a resident croc in the lagoon area between San Juan and The Boatyard, and that “everyone feeds it.” American crocodiles are intelligent apex predators and if fed even one time by man they learn to associate humans as a source of food. For over seven years now, ACES has been trying to educate the country on “why you should not feed a wild crocodile.” The most important reason, it is illegal. So, why does just about every country have this same law? Because after years of research, scientists and professionals have ascertained that when humans feed crocodiles it changes the crocs natural behavior of fearing humans to not fearing humans. Thus, the fed crocs begin to associate humans with food and that humans can be food. You cannot reverse this process and usually a fed wild croc has to be euthanized. ACES is not the answer but a part of crocodile conservation. We will attempt to remove any problematic crocodile that we are asked to do so. We are a non-profit crocodile rescue organization. And, unfortunately after ACES was burned to the ground by arsonists last September, we no longer have the financial means to support our cause. Every minute of our time is volunteered and much of our supplies including bait, electric tape, duck tape, bug spray, ropes, boat fuel, and flashlight batteries, all come from out of our pockets. We are currently accepting all types of donations to construct a crocodile refuge here on the island and have already received a $10,000 donation from the Plunkett Family of north Ambergris Caye and have begun the construction of the facility. Once completed, problematic crocs can be caught and placed in secure habitats at the facility for the public to safely view and learn about the importance of crocodiles in keeping our ecosystems in balance. To donate go to AmericanCrocodileSanctuary.org or email acesnpo@hughes.net We wish David a full and speedy recovery, Cherie & Vince

Tropic Airlines CEO Steve Shulty informed the Ad that two new Cessna Caravans will be arriving in San Pedro sometime in october. this will bring their fleet up to nine of these comfortable and durable planes.
tropic are also looking to fly to Chetumal and Cancun. This will obviously help the european tourist market as a flight from Cancun to San Pedro will obviously make travel time for europeans that much quicker.

The weather today is fine and we expect a little rain as we are on the top end of th tropical storm Harvey. I talked top the boss who was very surprised to hear that a storm had been named after an invisible six foot one and a half inch rabbit. He really does confuse me sometimes.
We are shortly going out for a walk.

Does anybody seriously believe anything that was written in this article, and does the San Pedro Sun believe anything that they wrote.
All the Ambergris Daily can say is, “What a crock of dog’s pooh.”

A question has been asked. Who pays property taxes? According to sourses within the town board less than 40% of residents and citizens which is not a good state of affairs for the development of our island.

For the past few months the BTB’s website has been in disarray. The Ambergris Daily reported this at the time but is dumfounded that the development of the new web site has been given to a new American company, at a vast cost, and it will take a long time to produce. The question to ask is why is an american company being used. This company has probably never been to Belize, and will obviously have to send a whole team here to learn about the country before they make the site.
We urge all our readers to go to the present web site which is www.travelbelize.org and see that the front page is a plate, of slightly out of focus, ceviche. We are sure that this particular picture will bring thouands of tourists to Belize.
Without a doubt San Pedro and Ambergris Caye is the most popular destination in the whole of Belize and subsequently raises the most amount of revenue for the country. Please try and find where we are advertised. We will give you a hint go to other islands and Atolls.
We at the Ambergris Daily urge the BTB to get its act together and put a website together that does not look like something a fairly bright child of seven years old put together on a rainy afternoon. There are lots of extremely web site designers in Belize and for a relatively small amount of money have a web site that is appealing to prospective tourists. This could be done within a week.

The Roadkillers were announced at the end of the quiz as joint winners with the “Ask Cindy” team. A riot, led by Taco Paul, immediately ensued and Forrest, the quizmaster, was surrounded by the baying mob. He was pushed to the ground and attacked in a manner rarely seen at Pedro’s. Charlie and Jambo got involved and quieted the mob down and Forrest collapsed like a deckchair and changed his original decision to an out right win for the Ask Cindy team.
Charlie and Jambo are reviewing the security arrangements and they have assured the organisers that scenes like this will never happen again. The various troublemakers have all been issued yellow cards and been warned in no uncertain manner to their future conduct. Meanwhile the team have agreed to pay all Forrest’s hospital and recuperation bills, and a number of rum cocktails.
The Roadkillers were commended on their behaviour and a number of jager shots were produced for them to consume.
