Buying a Condo on Ambergris Caye Part 2

Yesterday the Ambergris Daily published an article on its belief why consumers should buy a condo using the strata system, rather than by using the corporation share system. Our reason is just to make sure that the purchaser is fully protected, and although there are plenty of resorts that use the share system which works,in most cases, very well at the moment with many happy owners. The question has to be asked, when the developers decide to sell up all their real estate holdings or indeed leave them to their dependents who have never even visited Belize and who just employ a team of lawyers to maximise their profits in a clearance sale of all their now Belizean assets. All these assets could be sold to a developer who justs wants to use the slash and burn philosophy, and in our opinion this could happen. (Continue Reading)

Charlie and Jambo’s Weather Report for Sunday

It is a fantastic day and there is blue sky everywhere. A good breeze in in the offing, and it is perfect for Dumbo to go and chase coconuts.

We are going to Estelles for lunch which means that both Dumbo and I get ribs which is one of our favourite foods, and all we can say is that Charles should make sure that we get plenty. After lunch we will all waddle down the beach and probably go and listen to the band at Crazy Canucks.

We love living in San Pedro.

What Every Condo Purchaser Should Know Before Buying on Ambergris Caye/Belize

At the Ambergris Daily we are often asked about the benefits, perils and pitfalls of buying a condo on Ambergris Caye. One of the most common questions is “Do we get to own the condo outright if we buy it?”

Hopefully in most cases the answer is “Yes.”

Now some realtors and developers are going to say that the Ambergris Daily has not a clue, and that everything that is written in this article is bull****. However in ours, and others opinions this is the only way to safeguard your investment over the next century. Remember full ownership is key, and you should not have to be a lawyer to understand all the nuances of a contract. (Continue Reading)

Charlie and Jambo’s Weather Report

It is saturday and the boss returned yesterday and we and Lady Boss all went for a long walk on the beach, and I stayed inches away from the boss as he has a habit of getting lost, and disappearing for weeks on end.

The weather is great, strong breeze which is obviously not good for diving but great for sunbathing and walking on the beach. There a few clouds in the sky but it promises to be a great day to go out for lunch and we are all going to Aji (I think).

Reef Village-Change of Ownership

The Ambergris Daily has been reliable informed that Jeff Pierce the former CEO of Reef Village Estates has handed control over the entire project to the Reef Village Owners Association.

Details are rather sketchy at the moment but it appears that the owners have banded together to save RV going into liquidation, and have formed a new committee to run all aspects of the organisation. (Continue Reading)

The Anglican Church’s View on Homosexuality

Samantha CarlosSamantha CarlosBank manager, Samantha Carlos, was released on bail after she applied for and the Supreme Court granted her bail in the sum of 25 thousand dollars. She appeared before Justice Adolph Lucas who granted her the bail.
On April 11 of this year Carlos was taken to the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court along with Noel Usher and Harold Valencioand were jointly charged with conspiracy to commit robbery. The charge came after the Orange Walk branch of Heritage bank was robbed and the culprits got away with over $200,000 in cash and cheques.Carlos had been denied bail.

At the time Carlos’s attorney and attorneys for the other two accused had expressed their dissatisfaction over the magistrate ruling in denying Carlos bailas the crimes control act does not list conspiracy to commit robbery as a charge in which bail is denied. According to DickieBradley, another person charged with handling stolen goods was denied bail.  She is Marva Welch who was also denied bail under the same grounds.  In her petition to the court Carlos pointed out that she should have been granted bail. She said that she had no reason or motive to be involved in conspiracy or robbery of her her work place. She also said that she was the one who triggered the secret bank alarm as soon as the robbers reached the exit door and she was also the one who sent the special distress code to the authorized supervisor whilst still on the floor of the bank. Carlos in her petition for bail concluded by denying any conspiracy to commit robbery and proclaimed her innocence. At the time of her arrest, Carlos was the manager of Heritage Bank in Orange walk.Wednesday, May 11, marked one month since Carlos was remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

Justice Adolph Lucas who granted the bail set it with conditions ordering that Carlos must appear in the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court  on Friday, May 20, the date her matter had been adjourn to; she must surrender all her travel documents to the clerk of court; and she must report to the Orange Walk Police Station every Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m., and 6:00 p.m. until her case is disposed of. Carlos also must also not interfere with any of the prosecution witnesses or potential witnesses in the case and she must not be charged for any other offenses whilst she is out on bail on this matter.

Cop Not Charged with Counterfeit Cash

The AD just that this was strange
Senior Cop Caught With Counterfeit Cash
posted (May 18, 2011)

So, let’s see, so far we’ve done drug wars, human traffic, and what’s next? Of course, counterfeit! A tidy little sum of it came to the attention of police today – but the shocking part if who was trying to bank it: another police officer, and one with years in the job! That senior police officer is under scrutiny tonight after he tried to deposit 1600 US dollars in counterfeit notes at the Belize Bank.

It happened this morning at the Northside branch on Coney Drive around 10:00 a.m., when the Sergeant, who is attached to the Special Branch, went to the bank to try and deposit the money in his account. As per procedure, bank personnel called the police at the sight of 16, one-hundred US dollar notes – all which tested positive as counterfeit.

Officers from the CIB unit responded and found the well-known officer. They collected his ID, his deposit slip and the money but did not arrest or detain the Sergeant – which is a departure from procedure. Typically, when such situations occur, the person with the counterfeit would have his or her home searched and they would be questioned at some length, pending charges of possession of counterfeit currency.

The officer was back at work this afternoon, tasked simply to write a report pending further orders. No report has been entered and the sense we get is that the senior brass of the department is hoping this one will just go away. But, it’s a big deal; he’s a senior man in a sensitive post, and word is all over the department and was even on facebook this afternoon, we are told. We’ll wait and see what happens next.

Weather!

It’s a hazy day today here in San Pedro – warm and muggy with the slightest of breezes. Me thinks it’s cloudy, hot and heavy. It’s a day to grab your most colourful umbrella drink and sit in the swimming pool. All the usual writers of the weather are just lying around on the floor sleeping – they’re dog tired.

Another Wonderful Opportunity to Purchase a Business in San Pedro

Yet another ridiculous ad for a business in San Pedro. This realtor advertises accounts for the year. The business has been basically closed for the last 18 months and has done basically no business. It would be very interesting to see the profit and loss figures for 2010. (Continue Reading)
