Bailiffs Raid Bar North of Bridge

A new local bar with an adjoining house, situated just north of the bridge,was raided by a court bailiff for unpaid fines and debts. Two truck loads of goods were taken including a golf cart.

The Ambergris Daily is sure that this raid which was carried out late last week is just a misunderstanding but the lady bailiff was very curt in her handling of the goods being seized. She said, Pay the monies you owe or your goods go into a government bonded warehouse. The goods were then put in storage and if the debt is not paid will be auctioned in a few weeks.

Yesterday the boss and I went to support ACES which had an event at Legends. There were quite a few people there, and I had a good scrummage around the taco stand and found a good few morsels that tickled my fancy. Dumbo was not allowed to go as he had managed to plunder the local supermarkets trash bin. The music was good, as it always is when Gino is playing and the beer according to the boss was cold.

Elaine gave the boss an ibprofen as his neck was hurting and somehow the stupid idiot managed to swallow a sleeping pill, and that was the end of the event for us as we went straight home and he slept for 14 hours.

The weather is the same as yesterday, being hot and humid and the haze is burning offf which will mean this afternoon will have blue skies and a little breeze. Perfect for drinking white wine or lighthouse.

Jason Southwell Poker Champion of San Pedro

Last night Jason won the Island Academy Poker Tournament, and therefore he won the only prize of a 2 night complimentary stay at Caya Espanto which means he is going to have to take his wife on a romantic weekend. The prize has a value of over 10,000bzd.

The Pirates Party was very well attended and will have raised,we hope, significant funds for the purchasing of school books for next years curriculum.

Well done to everyone who helped in making this a fun event.

ACES Holding their Fundraiser today @ Legends

Increased Threat of Heartworm Disease in Dogs

Recent developments in the United States as well as San Pedro illustrate the importance of consistent heartworm prevention and testing in dogs.  Heartworms are parasites transmitted by mosquitoes which infect their host’s hearts and blood vessels, eventually resulting in death.

In the United States veterinarians across the South and Midwest are reporting increased resistance to heartworm preventatives.  Heartworm preventatives are medications given monthly which are designed to kill heartworm larvae before they infect the animal’s heart.  Once considered to be about 99% effective, these medications now seem to be losing their battles against the parasite.

There are a number of different drugs that are used to prevent heartworm disease.  Unfortunately, American veterinarians are reporting increased numbers of heartworm positive dogs regardless of the type of heartworm preventative used.

At San Pedro Animal Hospital we have euthanized 5 dogs this year due to advanced heartworm disease.  All five were not on any heartworm preventative, or had been given it inconsistently.

Until the American Heartworm Association releases new recommendations to deal with the issue it is important to continue giving heartworm preventatives monthly.   In addition, have your dog tested yearly for heartworm disease at his or her annual examination.  When detected early, heartworm is still a treatable disease.  Your pet could be infected even though they are not showing any symptoms.

Charlie and Jambo’s Weather Report

Last night the boss was in real pain as he has hurt his neck and Charlie and Jambo told me to be nice. I then took him a lizzard which I left in the bedroom and then I showed him how clever I am by chasing it all over the picture frames and through the closet. Somehow I upset everyone as they shouted at me and threw me out of the air conditioned bedroom. I slept on the balcony and am slightly pissed off. Charlie and Dumbo are still in the air conditioned room, and I am jealous, as I am the one who is the spoilt one.

The weather is the same as yesterday and it is already very hot and it is going to get hotter. We need rain but that is unlikely, and a much stronger breeze. It is a day to spend at the pool.

Charlie and Jambo’s Weather Report for friday

It is very humid and the breeze is slight. The sky is very hazy, and it should burn off later on today.

It may not rain today but there is definitely rain in the air and it is something the island desperately needs. Wells are drying or have dried up, and many people who live up north are having to import water from town which is very expensive at 30 cents a gallon.

Thank you for publishing the editorial several weeks ago about Sueno del Mar and the efforts of its membership.  154 of us have signed on as plaintiffs in a lawsuit against British Caribbean Bank (also known as Belize Bank) and its Receiver, currently operating Sueno to the exclusion of the membership. We are seeking to have the Timeshare Act upheld and the resort re-opened, so that all of Sueno’s members will have their rights restored and be able to return swiftly to Belize. (Continue Reading)

Island Academy Summer Pirate’s Party May 27

Everyone should come to the Island Academy on friday night. There are all sorts of events planned and prizes for costumes. It will be great fun.

There is also a poker tournament which the grand prize is a weekend for two at the famed Cayo Espanto Resort which includes 3 meals a day/ 2 massages and two nights -everything but wine and champagne is complimentary. This prize is worth in excess of 5000usd. All poker players are welcome.

Charlie and Jambo’s Weather Report for Thursday

It is very hazy this morning and Dumbo and I are lying on the balcony waiting for Dumbo’s favourite moment of the day which, of course, is breakfast. Splat is asleep on the chair, and it really is too hot to move.

There is a very mild breeze and I suspect that it will get stronger throughout the day. The haze in the sky will burn off later, and I hope that we go to the beach at least twice so that we can both cool off.
