All NFL Games Live at Pedro’s

Pedro’s Sports Bar is the only place on the island that people can see every NFL game in HD. As it is the only place that has satellite tv and 3 large flat screen tvs- so at any time during sunday there can be three games on simultaneously.

Cathy is opening the bar at 12.00 and will show whatever games people want to watch.

BHA looks at a Hospital for San Pedro

On thursday the minister of health and the CEO of the Belize Health Authority visited the island and in particular the Polyclinic.

It is strongly rumoured that they visited and looked at certain sites to build a 10 bed 24 hour hospital. Apparently the government has put aside a sum of 4 million dollars to build and buy a site that will be situated near San Pedro Town.

Polyclinic Changing Opening Hours

Over the next few weeks the opening hours will change to 8.00am to 8.00pm, which will certainly help the resident doctors to see all their patients. At any stage of the day there are always large groups of people waiting in the lobby to get treated, and this will be a benefit to all. Also they brought a new x-ray machine and a dialysis machine which will obviously improve the services that are currently in the clinic.

Currently there are no plans to make it a 24 hour facility.

An Answer to the Gambling post

Hi Ambergris,
Tanya Tizzle Mejia also commented on Ambergris Daily’s post.
Tanya wrote: “LMAO!!! Sooooo Poker Rooms at Pedro’s is bad then?? and HOW
THE HELL DO YOU KNOW LOCALS CANT AFFORD IT??? Did you ask these people if
they are unemploed??? maybe they work at night? maybe they are fishermen
that finish fishing by 10am…lol…****  thanks for the joke for the day….my stomach
hurts im laighing so hard right now”
THis goes to show that some people do not understand hardships. The unemployment
is at an all time high. Families are suffering as they are all over the world and yet the
only growth industry appears to be these arcades and they are in the poorer areas.
These shops/arcades are NOT there for the rich tourists but for the locals.
The Ambergris Daily is pleased that the author of this letter reads the articles but
obviously no longer lives on the island as she would see the huge numbers of people
looking for work. Hotels, bars, restaurants are shutting down for longer periods than
normal, and the slow season is truly slow, and money for the locals is at a premium.

Boatyard Bar under New Ownership

The Ambergris Daily visited the Boatyard bar last night and found that Raul of the Rose Garden had sold the bar to a newly transplanted gringo to the island.

The bar had its usual number of very friendly girls who hail from El Salvador and Honduras. It will no doubt become a major place for the single male tourist to visit, and it is good to see that the town board is actively supporting places where lonely men can go and hang out, and meet young ladies.

Charlie and Jambo’s Weather Report

The weather is the same as yesterday as it is overcast and cool but it is suspected that the temperature will rise throughout the day, and the sun will pop its head out in the middle of the afternoon.

Lady Boss is back and we are having more treats -life is really good.

Gangs in Belize City

Belize’s murder count continues to mount and as I write, the number is fast approaching the century mark and on pace to surpass even last year’s alarming record of 132.  Given Belize’s small size and population, this is truly alarming. (Continue Reading)

Proliferation of Gaming Machines on the Island

More and more gaming machine establishments are being opened in San Pedro and they seem to have endless customers. These establishments are for people who do not understand mathematics, as the only person that can win is the owners of the machines.

It is also noticeable that if these places are full during normal work hours. How can people afford to play them if they do not have employment.

The Ambergris Daily believes that the proliferation of these arcades which are only frequented by locals are extremely bad for our economy and the community at large. It promotes gambling which we all know that if one can afford it that is fine. However in a recession it becomes a bane on society and people end up spending what they cannot afford to lose, and the various families will suffer.

Mosquitos getting worse

With the weather being inclement the mosquitos are getting worse and the town board appears to be incapable of sending the machine that emits melathion (sp) which is extremely good and effective at killing the little buzzers. The machine needs to be sent out twice a day but it is very small and it may not be able to cope with the work that is necessary for it to perform. The big machine is broken and has not been repaired.

Charlie and Jambo’s Weather Report

A number of my cohorts have asked me to allow them to write guest columns. I may allow this but it has to be written by an animal that has been on the island for a period of time or a frequent visitor to my island.

Today is looking like it is going to be overcast and rain appears to be on the horizon. The humidity has dropped and it is going to be a cool day.
