On Saturday, at the Third World Field behind the Saint Martin De Porres Primary School, Youth for the Future will stage the show entitled “Enough is Enough”, which will feature a top line-up of artists. According to Coordinator, Joseph Stamp-Romero, Y.F.F. and the artists hope to break the cycle on crime.

Joseph Stamp-Romero, Coordinator, Enough is Enough Peace Rally
“Definitely if people come out, they can expect to hear speakers and performers from different artist, but also a message that they can take home to say that it’s time for peace, it’s time that we do it ourselves. Time and time you hear on the radio why don’t we do this why don’t we do that—different people saying different things, making different suggestions. Well, hopefully, they can take home a message that says I will do it myself. I will make sure that I make peace, that I advocate for peace in my neighbourhood.”

Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruise ships collide in Cozumel

Carnival Legend

A Carnival cruise ship pulling out of Cozumel late Wednesday collided with a Royal Caribbean ship docked nearby in an incident that has left both vessels damaged. Carnival says the 2,124-passenger Carnival Legend had just untied from its berth at the popular Mexican resort town when it was caught by heavy winds and pushed into the 2,446-passenger Enchantment of the Seas.

“Extremely strong winds pushed the vessel up against the side of Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Seas,” the line says in a statement to USA TODAY. “The (Royal Caribbean) ship was at dock when the incident occurred. The Carnival Legend sustained broken glass and other minor damage to some open deck areas.” (Continue Reading)

San Pedro License Plates

Golf Cart License Plates

If your vehicle has a Belize City license plate you must go to the traffic department, which is situated under the Town Board’s offices and re-register your golf cart/car/truck/motorcycle. Unfortunately there is some bad news attached to this, as yesterday was the last day that you can do that without being fined by the traffic police.

On the good news side Walter Medina of Pedro’s Inn took one of Pedro’s Inn golf carts down to the traffic office yesterday with all the paperwork, including insurance and was greatly surprised that it took less than fifteen minutes and cost only fifteen dollars for two brand new San Pedro license plates.

In other traffic news, pedestrian crossing markers and signs have been installed around San Pedro Town. Take a look at the ambergristoday blog to see and learn more.

Healing Waters of Belize

RusscastingGuys in my line of work never get “lost.” So let’s just say I was disoriented. Away from home, down in Alabama driving on a road that was decidedly “off the beaten path” looking for a house that the Army said was there, but that I really didn’t think existed. As disoriented as I was driving, the last thing I needed was a phone call…when of course my phone started ringing. My night and my luck was about to change a bit when I saw it was Dave from Project Healing Waters.

Growing up in New England, you don’t hear too much about bonefish. Maybe on a snowy Sunday morning you might watch an older episode of the Walkers Caye Chronicles, but more often striped bass, bluefish, tuna and swordfish took center stage in the salt. The turquoise waters of the Caribbean bonefish flats were something that most of us only saw on TV or in magazines…yet here was Dave on the phone with an amazing opportunity, bonefishing in Belize.
