I’ve been reading articles lately which indicate a possible step up for international real estate. According to some international property real estate salespeople, overseas property is on an upswing.
Not so fast, I would say. Two of the things that could happen in this market are increased sales volume and increased sales price. While perhaps there is an increase in the volume of sales (and I’m not agreeing there is), I see nothing indicating that the sales prices are recovering–or even leveling off. (Continue Reading)

In a gesture of goodwill to the community of San Pedro, the new water ferry service, Coastal Xpress, has taken over sponsorship of the town’s semi-pro soccer team; the San Pedro Dolphins. “It’s not something we expect to make any money out of; some things are more important to a community than that,” manager Darrell Williams told the Ambergris Daily.
“We became aware the club were having financial problems and decided to step in and help them out with transportation and wages.” (Continue Reading)

Atlantic Water Temperatures
The last Atlantic hurricane season that was this quiet was the strong El Niño year of 1997. That year, we got two weak 45-mph tropical storms in October to finish out the season. I predict that for this season, we will also finish out the year with two more named storms, with one of these reaching hurricane strength.
The most likely land areas such a storm might affect are along the Western Caribbean, Gulf Coast of Florida, and the Bahamas. The most likely time these storms may form is the period October 13 – November 7.
In the first half of October, Atlantic tropical cyclone activity remains quite high, before a sharp drop occurs around October 15. Since the current active hurricane period began in 1995, the first half of October has given birth to an average of 1.9 named storms, 0.7 hurricanes and 0.4 intense hurricanes. For the entire month of October, these figures are 3.9 named storms, 1.2 hurricanes, and 0.6 intense hurricanes. These numbers are about double the long-term climatological averages for the past 100 years. (Continue Reading)

Saga Humane Society
In an effort to control the stray and domestic animal population of South Ambergris Caye SAGA Humane Society and South AC Neighborhood Watch (SACNW) are working together to educate pet owners and provide spaying/neutering for those animals in need. “It’s nice to see these two great organizations working together for the betterment of our community” one area resident was heard saying.
Initially, area pet owners are approached by members of the SACNW Patrol to find out if they are interested in having their pets spayed or neutered, later members of the SAGA Humane Society staff and volunteers come on site to discuss the benefits of these and other procedures with the pet owners. Once they have the pet owner’s permission the animals are taken to the clinic where the procedures are done at no cost to the pet owner. (Continue Reading)

Port of Belize
The Port of Belize is now an official member of the Caribbean Shipping Association.
Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) was established in 1971 to facilitate development of an efficient, viable Caribbean shipping industry. Since then the Association has become the voice of the Region’s Shipping Industry and a major regional forum in which matters relevant to the growth and development of Caribbean Shipping are discussed.
The CSA represents its membership in regional hemispheric groupings, associations and organizations-governmental, multilateral and private sector; and maintains observer status with leading Caribbean multilateral bodies CARICOM and the Organization of Caribbean States.
