Weather for Thursday

Lady Boss will be back today so we will have to be on our best behavior. The problem is that Big Boss will also return and he leads by example so we’ll probably roll in a dead fish so that we can smell just like him.

The weather is nice…sunny, breezy, warm.

Minister Heredia denies Bail Rumours

Minister Heredia came out and said under no circumstances did he stand surety for the two child molesters that were arrested last week.

This is good news but the Ambergris Daily would like to know who did put up the sureties and how on earth was the amounts only 500bzd. The courts unfortunately have got this wrong child molesters while being allowed the protection of the law until they are found guilty should have a serious surety and their passports should be impounded, and the case should be heard as quickly as possible.

If found guilty these scumbags should be placed in Bubba’s cell which is situated in Hattieville, and left there for their natural born lives.

Illegal Fishing in Belize-This must be Stopped NOW

No Permit Can Allow Illegal Fishing
posted (January 23, 2012)

In 2009 the possession of Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit was prohibited in Belize – except in the act of catch and release. And although this has been law for three years now, it seems not everyone got the message. Today some disturbing photos were circulated showing the illegal slaughter of some of these protected fish off the shores of San Pedro on a fishing vessel called the “Acitac”.How can these protected fish be such an easy target? The problem seems to lie in management and organization – or lack thereof – since no money is received by the Fisheries Department to enforce the laws pertaining sport fishing – as it is the purview of the Coastal Zone Management Authority which does not do enforcement.

Illegal fishing of the Tarpon, Bonefish or Permit attracts a fine of 500 dollars. The species was protected because it is an important tourist attraction and their population numbers were low. The lure of the fish is that it is widely enjoyed as a dried, salted delicacy.

Fisheries would like to bring charges against the owner of the boat – but all they have is a picture and a registration number.

Diving in Costa Rica compared to Belize

It is a no brainer the visibility in Belize is 3 times greater than in Costa Rica and the waters are so much warmer.

The only problem is that with the over fishing in Belize there is a now a shortage of marine life, and without a doubt we need to protect all our dive sites. For example Cozumel after years of being over fished now protect their sites and the divers are returning in their droves as they have almost the same visibility as Belize but there is an awful lot more to see.

The Ambergris Daily would like to see all the dive sites protected and believes that this will bring more and more visitors to our country.

The Difference between Belize/Mexico and Guatemala

The Ambergris Daily iterviewed a lawyer who bought a house 20 km north of Ixtapa (2 hours north of Accapulco), and he stated to all present that he will never go back to the house as the narco gangs have taken over.

The kidnappings, torture, murders and general mayhem have made it impossible for him to live in peace and harmony.

This leaves Belize a chance to forge ahead as long as we keep these gangs away from our country. However with a gross income of double the economy of Guatemala it will be difficult but not impossible, and one hopes with strong government that Los Zetas and the mexican cartels will just use the guatemala/mexican border crossing which is fast becoming a no go area for both sets of authorities.

Belize at the momemt has none of these problems and long may that remain the case.

The Difference between Costa Rica and Belize

The simple answer is trash. Costa Rica has, probably through its school system taught all citizens that it is important to despose of rubbish responsibly.

Without a doubt it would be a step in the right direction if the same thing was taught in Belize.

New @ Pedro’s Hotel and Inn on Ambergris Caye

Pedro’s has updated another 10 rooms which means that there are now flat screen tv’s in all but a few rooms. The second and third floors now have hard wood floors and on the second floor there are hard wood walls being fitted-one room at a time but all the rooms should be finished by the first week in february (a huge thank-you to Walter and his team).

Pedro’s famous thin crust pizza is,as most people know, being cooked at Pedro’s and is open everyday from 4.00pm. Look out for the all you can eat pizza nights. Cindy’s fabulously strong rum punch has become a firm favourite and all should try her ridiculously coloured shots-both are only 7 bzd.

Poker is being held 4 nights a week under the stewardship of Jason who is totally responsible for making the game a lot more fun, and he promises that a brand new 32 inch flat screen tv will be given away in february. If you are the lucky winner and live outside of the country it will be delivered to your home address.

The Ambergris Daily wonders what will happen to the incumbent town councillor

ELECTION CLERK SUSPENDED FOLLOWING INCIDENT IN SAN PEDRO

January 20, 2012

But the perusal of the binders is perhaps the least of the issues confronting the Election and Boundaries Department in this highly charges atmosphere heading into the Municipal Elections. The department suffered a major embarrassment this week, when an incumbent councilor of the San Pedro town council was busted behind the desk inside the Election and Boundaries Office on the island, apparently going through the voters list. How Cocaine gets to the USA

It might have been a spaceship from some distant galaxy — that’s how incongruous it seemed — but it was just a submarine, somewhere in the South American jungle.

When it was discovered by law-enforcement agents in February 2011, the vessel was perched in an improvised shipyard, hidden amid the coastal woodlands of western Colombia.

Twenty-one metres long and constructed mainly of fibreglass, the craft had room for a six-member crew and 6,435 litres of diesel fuel. (Continue Reading)
