UNESCO makes sizeable donation to Belize
Love FM | The United Arab Emirates through UNESCO made a significant donation of relief and medical supplies to the National Emergency Management Organization, NEMO. Liaising on Behalf of Belize was Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Wilfred Elrington.“These were made possible through the assistance of our ambassador to UNESCO and his sister who is also Belize’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates. These gifts come from the United Arab Emirates and the Crown Prince, it consists of one forty foot container and two thirty feet containers with all types of materials that are need during times of emergency. We are very grateful to the United Arab Emirates and the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates. The more we have this interaction the more we can get benefits to help to develop both of our people and to make our people safe and secure.”
The Manager of the Office of the Ambassador to UNESCO, Gabriel Saikaly travelled to Belize to ensure the delivery of the items to the country.

“When the Minister of Foreign Affairs asked to have help he said what he needed we immediately went to work to get a donation for Belize. We know it is very hard and we wanted to help Belize with this donation.”
Noreen Fairweather, National Emergency Coordinator at NEMO says the donation is one of the biggest they have received in a while.

“It certainly will go a long way. As I said it is a significant amount. It is one of the largest donations that we have ever received in terms of food stuff for a long time so we are truly appreciative of the donation from UNESCO. We have three warehouses across the country. We will have them distribute all over so it can be accessed from whatever part of the country in the event that we do need them.”
The donation includes relief supplies such as blankets, plastic sheets, baby supplies, canned foods, hygiene kits, generators and medical supplies. Fairweather says some food items can be stored until next season.
