In her recent memoir, The Possibility of Everything, acclaimed author Hope Edelman writes, “A person in the act of traveling from one place to another is a person stripped down to her very essence, perhaps the truest self that can exist.”

Our travels take us away from home, our familiar surroundings, our familiar self. For Hope, her familiar self was the eternal skeptic. A “card carrying member of the Church of the Senses,” she had to see to believe. But when her 3-year old daughter Maya develops a mysterious imaginary friend, named “Dodo,” whose presence becomes increasingly disturbing, Hope and her husband make the unlikely choice to take their daughter to Mayan healers deep in the rainforests of Western Belize. On Saturday, at the Third World Field behind the Saint Martin De Porres Primary School, Youth for the Future will stage the show entitled “Enough is Enough”, which will feature a top line-up of artists. According to Coordinator, Joseph Stamp-Romero, Y.F.F. and the artists hope to break the cycle on crime.

“Definitely if people come out, they can expect to hear speakers and performers from different artist, but also a message that they can take home to say that it’s time for peace, it’s time that we do it ourselves. Time and time you hear on the radio why don’t we do this why don’t we do that—different people saying different things, making different suggestions. Well, hopefully, they can take home a message that says I will do it myself. I will make sure that I make peace, that I advocate for peace in my neighbourhood.”

B.N.E. Trust to build classrooms

25367Belize Natural Energy (B.N.E.) wants to be known not only for the oil it extracts from Belize’s soil and the estimated three hundred and thirty-four million dollars it profited in sales from 2005 to 2008. It also wants to be recognized for its contribution to the society. In 2008, the B.N.E. Charitable Trust was established to assist community organizations, and on March twenty sixth several communities and organizations received substantial monetary donations. Others institutions like St. Margaret Primary School on the Hummingbird Highway received not funds but a commitment. St. Margaret’s Principal, William Castillo, thanked BNE for the four classroom building that BNE has promised to construct at today’s ground breaking ceremony. (more…)
