Charlie and Jambo’s weather report on Ambergris Caye

The sky is blue, the sun is shining, it makes life worth living. The internet has been down and uncle Paul has been kicking the building as he says “I can’t work”. Personally, I’ve never seen Uncle Paul work very much. He sits on the picnic table and smokes cigarettes that hurt my health, although, since the Big Boss stopped smoking in the bar Charlie and I are much happier to scoff pizza without that horrible smell in the air.

Politician Involved in Brothels on Ambergris Caye?

Mothers and wives who live in the DFC have been demanding that a house owned by former town councillor Juan Alamilla, and now called the Mansions be investigated by the Police Dept.,Immigration and the San Pedro Town Liquor Board. On sunday night there was going to be a joined planned raid but the managers/owners of this business knew that this was going to happen 24 hours before the event. The raid was cancelled, by the powers to be whoever they maybe, a few hours before the planned time . It is being suggested that a ranking politician is involved, and that more of these places will be opened to service the local community.

All the employees who come from sunnier climes,Guatemala,Honduras, El Salvador were told not to come to work as they would need to produce papers. The Ambergris Daily is unsure what that meant.

It is evident to even the most dumbest reader of this highly respected blog that a politico has got his fingers into this business and has subverted the course of justice by undermining the police, immigration and the SPTBLLC.

BTL Blocks DNS in Belize

On Monday, the internet connection in much of the country of Belize was disrupted for several hours while BTL mistakenly included DNS into the list of protocols that it blocks along with Skype, Voice Over IP and VPNs.  BTL managed to block not only access to third party DNS services around the world but also its own in house DNS servers.

For those of you that don’t know, DNS is a core web technology and by blocking it you censor access to every website on the planet.

Service with BTL has been getting increasingly worse through the years as they work to “improve” their blocking technology.  Aside from this obvious DNS blocking mistake (which was corrected by about 2pm), the skype blocking technology causes multitudes of problems with everyday websites like Facebook and GMail which make heavy use of background connections and causes large file downloads to secure servers to terminate unexpectedly and randomly.

The Ambergris Daily calls on the Government of Belize, who has owned BTL for several years, to finally remove the Skype block and all other blocking technology from their network and implement a policy of net neutrality.  The consistently degrading internet quality is driving away telecommuters and other remote workers who would otherwise spend time and money in our country and worse, is driving away potential high tech businesses who would otherwise consider Belize for outsourcing  and call center opportunities.

Realtors ban their Sales Associates from Pedro’s Inn on Ambergris Caye

A certain real estate company that is operating sales on the west coast of Ambergris Caye and the lagoon have banned their new Canadian Sales Associate from setting foot in Pedro’s Sports Bar.

This obviously has to do with the fact that people in Pedro’s know and tell the truth about these poorly thought out developments. The Ambergris Daily wonders why (or not really) why nobody actually lives over on the lagoon side if these developments are as good as the are purported to be.

If any of the real estate agents believe that Pedro’s doesn’t tell the truth about developments, the door to Pedro’s Inn is always open to them to come in and make their case…

Blind Student at Isla Bonita on Ambergris Caye learns braille

A young girl, Dayanara, who has been attending Isla Bonita School for the past 3 years has been managing with difficulty to keep up with the syllabus. The University of North Carolina Wilmington who brings student teachers every year brought one teacher, Elizabeth Budd, who taught Dayanara Braille during her three week experience.

Elizabeth said of her pupil. “She is absolutely brilliant and has so much untapped potential. I have never seen a student pick up and enjoy a subject at such a quick pace.” The student is now delighted that she can now follow a life long dream of reading books for pleasure as well as knowledge.

The Ambergris Daily congratulates professors Dennis Kubasko and Susan Catapano for spear heading this initiative and look forward to them bringing back new potential students next year. Congratulations to all who took part in this endeavor.

Buying a Business on Ambergris Caye

If you are in the market to buy a business on Ambergris Caye the first thing you must do is come down to the island and observe. So many people want to view accounts and lets face it any idiot can produce the most amazing set of accounts in an hour or two. There is absolutely no chance of buying a business with an accurate or honest set of books.

Your new best friend who just happens to be a realtor and he or she will tell you that you are the only person who has the chance to buy this brilliant business, and you have to act now, and Hells Bells all you have to do is sit in a local bar and just hear the money going through the cash register. He or she will also guarantte the accounts as long as that fact is not on the purchasing contract.

The truth of the matter is that,of course, you have have to work bloody hard and then there is no guarantee that you are going to make it. There are two facts to remmeber and that is that almost everyone steals, and that almost everyone has at least 5o grandmothers and it is an unfortunate fact of life but one of them will die each week and the employee will need at least 2 days off to attend the funeral.

Charlie and Jambo’s Weather Report on Ambergris Caye

It is overcast but not a bad day. Jambo has had breakfast and he is now looking forward to tomorrow. I believe he is only truly happy for about 2 minutes a day.

Grand Oasis Development on Ambergris Caye Falling Apart

Grand Oasis Development formerly known as Sugar Caye - we still wonder at Ambergris Daily why the name was changed after only a few months. It could not possibly be that false advertising was used in the development of ecologically designed seawalls which was a total bunch of garbage.

Whilst flying over the sewage plant which is next to this development it is becoming increasingly obvious that the reclaimed land is falling back into the man made canals. There appears to be no sign of sea walls being built and if we get a strongish hurricane this year that the entire development will end up as one soggy muddy swamp which we doubt ,would be good news for the purchasers of the lots that have already been sold on this site.

We wonder why

Criminal dies in police custody on Ambergris Caye

A few days ago 2 nefarious characters arrived on the island and robbed a tourist at Tacklebox nightclub which, to be fair, is not full of outstanding citizens of Ambergris Caye. These two jerks (one of them being from Belize City) stole a girls bag which contained passport, credit cards, money and the whole lot.

The following day she tracked these wonders of society down, and with some local help managed to find them and got Corporal Young to arrest them, as they wanted her to empty her bank account in exchange for the return of all of her ID. Corporal Young came to the rescue and arrested these two and the girl got everything back. Unfortunately, the tourist refused to press charges or even write a report as she was leaving in a few hours.

The were both released yesterday unfortunately and guess what… one of them tried to rob a tourist last night and whilst being chased by the police he tried to jump over a wall, hurt his neck and the police captured him and threw him in jail where he definitely belonged. It appears that he broke his neck while hurdling that wall, and died in custody last night.

His death is not the fault of the Police, they should be commended for capturing this criminal and putting him back where he belongs…

Trivia Tonight at Pedro’s

It’s a special occasion tonight, so the weekly Trivia Quiz will be held tonight at Pedro’s Inn, instead of the regularly scheduled location at Roadkill Bar.
