Belize National Coast Guard
Two US Nationals stranded off the coast of Ambergris Caye were rescued in a search operation conducted by the Belize Coast Guard yesterday. Following a distress call about three o’clock in the afternoon, coastguard officials from San Pedro were dispatched to an area about two miles east of Boca Bacalar Chico near the Belize-Mexico border where they found the vessel Second Star with two persons onboard. The vessel apparently had an engine failure and was drifting out of control. (more…)

Police were in the streets of San Pedro yesterday by the Tacklebox Pier in response to a new dispute between the San Pedro Express Water Taxi Association and the Caye Caulker Water Taxi Association.

In a gesture of goodwill to the community of San Pedro, the new water ferry service, Coastal Xpress, has taken over sponsorship of the town’s semi-pro soccer team; the San Pedro Dolphins. “It’s not something we expect to make any money out of; some things are more important to a community than that,” manager Darrell Williams told the Ambergris Daily.
“We became aware the club were having financial problems and decided to step in and help them out with transportation and wages.” (more…)

Golf Cart License Plates
If your vehicle has a Belize City license plate you must go to the traffic department, which is situated under the Town Board’s offices and re-register your golf cart/car/truck/motorcycle. Unfortunately there is some bad news attached to this, as yesterday was the last day that you can do that without being fined by the traffic police.
On the good news side Walter Medina of Pedro’s Inn took one of Pedro’s Inn golf carts down to the traffic office yesterday with all the paperwork, including insurance and was greatly surprised that it took less than fifteen minutes and cost only fifteen dollars for two brand new San Pedro license plates.
In other traffic news, pedestrian crossing markers and signs have been installed around San Pedro Town. Take a look at the ambergristoday blog to see and learn more.

Guys in my line of work never get “lost.” So let’s just say I was disoriented. Away from home, down in Alabama driving on a road that was decidedly “off the beaten path” looking for a house that the Army said was there, but that I really didn’t think existed. As disoriented as I was driving, the last thing I needed was a phone call…when of course my phone started ringing. My night and my luck was about to change a bit when I saw it was Dave from Project Healing Waters.
Growing up in New England, you don’t hear too much about bonefish. Maybe on a snowy Sunday morning you might watch an older episode of the Walkers Caye Chronicles, but more often striped bass, bluefish, tuna and swordfish took center stage in the salt. The turquoise waters of the Caribbean bonefish flats were something that most of us only saw on TV or in magazines…yet here was Dave on the phone with an amazing opportunity, bonefishing in Belize.
