Raise your Flag Competition
Love FM | The fifth annual raise your flag and win with love competition starts today. Program Coordinator and Manager at RSV Limited, Karmen Barrow, tells us why this year’s competition is seeking the participation of all Belizeans.

“The competition has been ongoing for the past four years put on by Love FM. The concept for the competition was actually the brain child of one of our staff members Mrs. Alma Erskine. Since then it has really grown from strength to strength. Over the years we have seen more and more Belizeans across the country participating in raise you flag. The way the Raise You Flag Competition works is that we normally start off by doing what we did this morning on the morning show. We do an official launch which says and sends the signal to Belizean across the country that they need to get ready because we at RSV Media Limited are good to go.
What we do is that we travel across the country looking for businesses, looking for schools and homes where people have gone out of their way to raise the Belizean flag. What we are looking to see is the display of nationalism and patriotism by Belizean people. It doesn’t matter if it is the children, the business houses or individual people. Some people have put decorations on their bicycles, some of them put it on their nails, in their hair; different ways of displaying their nationalism and patriotism.”
The competition is open to all Belizeans and residents of the districts are encouraged to gear up for the competition.

“We do it in two ways; we go out so we have a schedule where throughout the month of September, it actually starts on August 30 our visits begin. We will be going across the country so you may find us through the Belize River Valley, the old Maskall Road; we might be in Baranco, different places across the country. We don’t necessarily let you know exactly where we are coming but you know that we will be generally in you neck of the woods. People have responded over the years by decorating all, all manner of decoration. This morning we showed you that video clip where you saw people doing all sorts of creative and innovative things in terms of raising the Belizean flag. The whole idea behind raise you flag is to get Belizeans engaged in putting on display what it means to be a Belizean and showing that love of country.”
Barrow encourages all Belizeans to be as creative as possible and to join in on this wonderfully patriotic part of the September Celebrations.

“Get you flag if it’s one flag, put it up on your house, on your bicycle, whatever way you can. If you are a business establishment put them up. We put up a flag this morning that was prepared by Virginia Johnson and her crew from Image Pro and so you could either get a flag from them or you could pick up a flag from one of the other business establishments. Just raise you flag and just by doing that it entitles you to participate in our grand raffle for raise you flag and win with Love this year.”
