What Happens When you Pre-Book at the BYC in San Pedro

Last year we stayed in a ocean view unit. Before we left we booked for 1 month and told we had to pay full amount uofront, which we did. When we arrived we were given a totally unaccepable room, not ocean view that we paid for. They said they could not find our reservation. we had to contact American Express for transaction proof. No refund so we contacted the Tourism Police for help. They were such a help and we thank them so much. We ended up staying in another place and will never ever recommend this place. it’s a SCAM!!!!!

Sent to me by Penny Makin on January 25th. 2013 – “I’m getting a little frustrated with trying to post my views on Trip Advisor, this is the third attempt, my other two never appeared on here. My experience of the Belize Yacht Club has been nothing but positive. This is my fourth visit here. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in San Pedro. The location is the best of any on this island. All others are so far out of town which is fine if you are here only to use the water sports. But from here everything is within walking distance a big bonus when renting a golf cart can be expensive. This is a location that I feel as a single woman travelling alone is a very secure and very safe resort. The security is 24 hour on both the street side and beach side. Contrary to one review I read that states security is only on street side. I’m shocked at some of the reviews I have read on here as I haven’t seen anything in all the months I have been staying here close to these complaints. In fact one of the complaints mentioned cockroaches and showed the actual unit. I stayed in that unit for one month prior to their stay and there certainly was no trace of anything like that. Would I have booked another month one month later? I don’t think so. I know the Torres family well from all my time spent at this resort. I find Julia to be a very hard working woman who strives to make sure her guests are happy and have only ever seen guests treated well by management. Most of the incidents mentioned on this site are not actually witnessed by the guests most are rumours they have been told but have not happened to them directly. I think that the people posting these rumours or incidents should have all the facts at their disposal before bad-mouthing the management here. Some issues reported were witnessed but without any background information. There are some unscrupulous people causing problems for the management that they have to deal with in their own way. Anyone witnessing any of this should remain uninvolved when the don’t have all the facts. As well this site as this is the third review I’ve posted but there is no record of the other two. I’m trying again. some of the stories reported on this site have been from stories told to the guests by a few resident at the Yacht Club. Anyone repeating these stories are repeating unfounded rumours and I have heard them all too. Repeating them particularly in a site such as this is very reckless as yes there are a very few individuals who have an axe to grind and are spreading malicious rumours. These people and their stories should be ignored. Yes as a long time guest here I have been approached with unfounded tales about the management. These people should be ignored. Their comments should not be reported here. Theirs are personal vendettas and they use very underhanded means to destroy the reputation of a beautiful resort and a delightful family. I just hope that the damage done by a few people can be undone by the truth. I put so much confidence and trust in the owners of this resort that I have invested in purchasing a luxury condo at Sands
