Fire in South Ambergris threatens Football Stadium
San Pedro Fire
At about 7:30 last night a brush fire broke out in vacant lots adjacent to the Ambergris Football Pitch and Stadium, which borders on the San Pablo neighborhood.
Flames and smoke flared into the evening sky until the San Pedro Fire Department arrived to deal with the issue. The fire spread through out the vacant lots that surround the Stadium, but with the rain that has occurred over the last few days on the island it was not an immediate threat to the homes in the area as large patches of standing water served as a fire break.
Talk among the neighbors in the area ranged from a belief that it was set intentionally to clear the vacant lots, to the idea that an errantly disposed of ciggarete may have been to blame. Police and Fire Officials are investigating the cause. Photos courtesy of Tacogirl.com
