Dog Poisonings in Tres Cocos

Ambergris Daily has learned that a mass poisoning of dogs has taken place in the Tres Cocos area of Ambergris Caye. Atleast 6 pet dogs are very ill and 2 have died as a result of eating rat poison packs. In some cases it appears that the poison packs were thrown into people’s yards, not just left in public places. Residents of Tres Cocos and surrounding areas are urged to keep a close eye on your pet dogs over the next few days.

Veterinarian Laurie Droke or the San Pedro Animal Hospital has been in surgery all morning dealing with pet dogs that have ingested the poison. If you think your dog has been poisoned, contact the San Pedro Animal Hospital by phone at: (501) 610-DOGS (3647).

The North Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch is offering a $500.00 CASH Reward for information which leads to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for doing this. Please be on the look out for anyone new or hanging around the neighborhood and be sure to secure your house at this point. Notify the Police of any unusual activity or you find something that could be the poison.

More than two dogs are dead, two of Maureen’s, Lola the doberman and Pat Stiley’s dog, Chica Bonita, not to mention many others which are gravely ill. The count is rising by the hour. My dog was ill and I had my husband take her to Belize City for the antidote to Furonone (an insecticide that is purple tablets). The vet is here now and has the antidote in her office. Whoever did this is very mentally ill and should be arrested!
