BTL Announces Faster & Cheaper Internet

In a very confusing speech yesterday, Prime Minister Dean Barrow announced that the internet speeds at the nationalized telcom company BTL are getting cheaper with prices dropping about 40% for each plan.  It was also announced that the fastest level of DSL service to be offered would be increasing from 4mbps to 8mbps finally bringing Belize into the year 1999.

From the sound of things, if you currently have DSL and the next highest service is equal or lower to the rate you are currently paying, your speed will be doubled rather than your rate dropped.

Changes should take effect December 1st.  Unfortunately, there was no mention of removing any of the Skype/VOIP filters they have in place that degrades the connection for everyone.

See the crazy person below for further details.
